What A Bunch Of Whiners

Gulf Gusher symbolYou have to wonder what Mississippi officials have been doing for the last two months. It has been obvious from the early days that until the pictures start showing up in the media, BP won’t do anything. It has also been obvious that the Feds are the junior partner in the Unified Command because BP controls the checkbook.

McClatchy reports that Mississippi officials slam Coast Guard as BP oil hits shores

GULFPORT, Miss. — What South Mississippi officials had been fearing for weeks came true Sunday when large, gooey globs of weathered oil, chocolate-colored oil patties and tar balls washed ashore in quantity along the Mississippi Coast.

Emergency managers scrambled to win approval for stronger protection of inland waterways, more skimming equipment in Mississippi waters and installation of absorbent material, also to keep oil out of inland waterways.

Local officials were livid that the oil had made it ashore.

Maybe if Mississippi has stopped kissing up to corporations they wouldn’t be awakening to the smell of crude oil on their beaches. Maybe if a few Mississippi politicians had supported effective oversight of the oil and gas industry, instead of blocking all attempts to do it, they wouldn’t be cleaning oily muck off their jon boats. Maybe if they had supported funding for the Coast Guard, there wouldn’t have been such a reduction of in the service along the Gulf Coast.

Welcome to the club. If you don’t want to pay for service, don’t complain when you don’t get any.

Uh-huh. I’ve been looking for any of the right-wingers who dominate this area to come forward and say that they’re re-thinking their voting history since 1980. Starting with my FoxNews-loving sister. I have yet to see anyone except lefty-commie-liberals make the connection.

Waiting….waiting…

You ought to see all of these “small government”, “tax hating”, “anti-Fed” local politicians line up at the trough after a hurricane – it’s disgusting, and I suspect criminal in some cases, as no one ever remembers seeing some of the things that local governments want the Feds to “replace”.

They want the services, they just don’t want to pay for them. If you’re looking for “welfare queens” just go to county commission meetings in the Panhandle, up front facing the “people”.

That is the most pernicious result of Reaganism in action: The notion that you can have good government and efficient services, without paying for them. Wow, what a deal, if it worked. But of course, it doesn’t. If you don’t pay for effective regulation, for example, you get… err, well, what you have washing up on your beaches right now :(. And so forth.

But don’t dare criticize Saint Reagan and his philosophy of “something for nothing”, because then you will be set upon with fury by everybody with only two brain cells to rub together…

They keep cutting taxes and budgets, but the ponies never appear. If it didn’t cause so much damage to real people it would be funny – elective insanity, stupid by choice.

None of the governors wants to admit that they had no plans of any kind to deal with an oil spill. Florida was slightly better off because of all of the military bases on the coast and the military has plans to cover their possible spills. I guarantee that the bill to open Florida waters to drilling had no provisions to contain a spill.

These people keep looking for the magical solution that solves all problems with no pain or cost.

I have nothing new to add to this. It’s all been said! *shrug* 🙂

OT: However… I just wanted to post the latest from my *several years running* GOP moron of the year award winner (and there are SOOOOOO many to choose from!) Michele ‘I was born without a brain’ Bachman! And seriously… every time she opens her mouth, even to breath, something utterly stupid is sure to issue forth, but this is one of the very dumbest so far, at least… so far this year anyway! 😆

Bachmann: ‘I Don’t Want The United States To Be In A Global Economy’

I cannot for the life of me see how any American with even a 10th of a working brain could fail to be totally embarrassed by this particular Moron-in-Congress especially! A—Mazing!! 😆

America must be one of the very few places in the entire World where the dumber you are, the better your chances of rising high! It’s obviously a prerequisite! 😆

Then again… Bachmann is facing some stiff competition from this new moron, the gap is closing rapidly! 😆

Sharron Angle Is Against Abortion In Cases Of Rape Or Incest: It Would Interfere With God’s ‘Plan’

I *HAVE* to stop reading TP and other blogs!! It get’s to hard to breath properly lately! 😆

There is no way of underestimating the intelligence of the American electorate because of the existence of “single issue” voters. There are huge numbers of people in the US who only care about a single issue, like abortion or guns, and as long as you claim to believe exactly they same way they do on that issue, they will back you, because they don’t care about anything else.

These “true believers” are the heart of the “tea party”, who often take contradictory positions, but believe strongly in those positions, and refuse to accept proof that they are totally illogical.

Generally there is a belief that someone “has been anointed by G-d” to do His will, so people just have to accept the insanity.

Angle was truly a gift to Harry Reid who deserved to have been put out to pasture, and will probably be re-elected unless the voters of Nevada just decide not to bother to go to the polls, which is possible. Low turnout elections always favor the whackos.

Better you than I going to those locations, PJ. It might be fun to see how they think it could be arranged at a mile below the Gulf, but reality and conspiracies rarely intersect.

Yeah, really! When I blogged at LM years ago, I’d force myself to visit LGF, Redstate, PL, etc… Still gives me the shivers and dry mouth thinking about it!

You are braver than I am these days, PJ! 😉 😀
