While concentrating on the new rules about fouls near the ball, the referees missed off-side goals, hand-ball goals, and goals that crossed the line and then exited the goal area because of the crummy ball the games used. There was no attention paid to what was going on away from the ball.
We have the ability to help officiating with technology, but FIFA refuses. I’m not talking about instant replay, but some accuracy about goals, and lines would be nice, as well as extra eyes if there is a question. The referee should be able to get a reliable second opinion, and to get a handle on all of the acting by the players.
]]>Jill, that was action near the ball, there were a lot things going on with no ball in sight – things that were called muggings when I carried a badge. The problem is that young players will see it and think that’s how you should do it.
They really need to add some more officials to put a stop to this garbage, people to watch what’s going on away from the ball, and a drama coach to rule on some of the absurd acting.
