]]>The Umbrellas of Cherbourg are all well and good, but the last time I went to France in was in the company of a Canadienne and the discussion of her accent by several of the French that we encountered nearly ended up in court. I can guarantee that most of the French involved does not appear in standard dictionaries and certainly is not part of any school’s standard vocabulary.
You have to know the hot button issues for any culture and learn to deal with them. The language issue between Quebec and the “old country” one of them.
As long as I didn’t have to go near Paris, I had a good time in France. Not as nice as the Netherlands, but a good time.
