Puritans hanged them. It was logical and scientific, because witches, as creatures of hell, obviously wouldn’t be destroyed by fire. It was just as logical as ‘witches float in water because they don’t have souls and are therefore lighter.’ You can’t make this stuff up.

Kansas is already crazy. The Wichita, Kansas minor league baseball team is called the Wichita Wingnuts. Not just crazy, but proud of it. [Note: they are in the same league as the Pensacola Pelicans, so I noticed the name at the newspaper site.]

I saw that bit, but was already aware that the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia was the second largest shareholder in Rupert’s empire. He also offered NYC a check after 9-11, but Rudy turned him down.

Yeah, Steve, I really need to pay more attention to the word list when I correct spelling errors, because this is hardly the first time I’ve selected the wrong word.

Actually, Steve, if the Greek Orthodox church stops trying to hold up the Port Authority, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church will be rebuilt next to the “hallowed office building”. Since the tiny original church was flattened by the debris from the falling towers, the PA offered them a larger lot [the original was only 1200 square feet, 30X40] and $20 million, but the church officials kept making more demands.

As I have said before, there were no churches in the Mohawk River Valley of New York until after the Revolution. The Dutch and German settlers fled Europe because of religion, so they weren’t interested in bringing the problem with them. What churches there were in New Holland were Dutch Reform, and no one else was allowed to build in the colony. Almost all of those churches were in New Amsterdam/NYC.

In many of the 13 there were religious monopolies, as the colonies were founded as dumping grounds for problem sects in Britain. They had few religious views or principles in common, which is why religion was removed from the government.

The purpose of the Constitution was to unite the states and religion was what separated many of them. It obviously was never part of the foundation of the nation.

Yup. And perceptibly as well. [/editorial-snark]

Another irony is that there are two (Christian) churches closer to Ground Zero than this Muslim community center would be. But some people are just sure that our Founders bequeathed us “a Christian nation.” I do believe I’ll puke on the next person who tells me that. Thomas Jefferson would be surprised to hear it. And John and Abigail Adams would be very surprised… that whole family was (gasp!) Unitarian!

(Here is a good summary of the religions of US presidents, if it makes any difference to you.)

Even 6 mths ago, FOX reported they didn’t see a problem with it! 😆 NOW.. FAUX shows that building the center (Mosque, as they call it) will fund Hamas & Iran! So, Jon shows how Newscorp, Bushmoron and the Repugs are *actually* associated with Saudi Arabia, Bin Laden, and Al Quida! LMAO

You HAVE to watch this!! 😀 Really! PMSL

The Daily Show – August 19, 2010 – Jennifer Aniston

We should just build a wall around Kansas and send them all there.

Noooooo! Bad plan! They’ll all just disappear down the rabbit hole and worship at the feet of their master, the Mad Hatter! They’ll be even crazier than they are now.

Do what their ancestors (genetic & spiritual) did in Salem… Burn them then! That’ll take care of all the nasty germs etc. They are just parasites. treat them as such. 😉

It would cost and arm and a leg to renovate, because I’ll almost guarantee that the ugly institutional brown paint on the exterior is lead-based. There is probably stone underneath but who would put up the money to find out?

A new, efficient building is the best solution for the long run, and the neighbors are happy with it. The Imam has lived and worked in Tribeca for decades. He is based at a mosque further north on West Broadway, so he isn’t an outside developer – local people know he is one of them.

Why I said what I said. 😉 Doesn’t look like it’s changed much in 20 years… worse maybe! People should be very grateful that ANYONE wants to put a new building there! Prob took 10 years to get approval because the others were worried they may have to renovate… or demolish! LMAO

Idiots!

With all that they have had to put up with from the oil, I wouldn’t pollute the Gulf further with politicians and wingnuts. We should just build a wall around Kansas and send them all there.

As you look at the picture, the shorter building on the right is home to the Dakota Roadhouse, a bar, and on the left is the Amish Market, an upscale organic grocery and deli.

This was part of the dock district. These places were built with the office on the ground floor and warehouse space in the upper floors. In many of them the warehouse space has been converted into condos after being used as lofts by the artistic types. Tribeca is going upscale, so the new building will fit in, especially since it will have a swimming pool and basketball court. None of the people complaining are local as the buildings are currently empty, which means minimal property tax, so the shift to a non-profit is not a major hit.

If you type tribeca ny into Google and look at the map you can see the current buildings with Street View. Ugly doesn’t begin to describe it. You will also see why no one has to worry about seeing this building on their way to the “hallowed office space” and “hallowed shopping mall” that will be built at “Ground Zero”,

That’s a pretty classy looking building! I can’t imagine many locals complaining, except that it’ll make many in that area look even worse than they already do! But, It’ll probably raise the values of their dumps if nothing else (not to mention bringing in more suckers with money, who generally avoid that area)! And New Yorkers loooove money! 😀 😉

For a start, you will not only raise the avg IQ of the USA (which sorely needs the boost), but the entire Planet! And our children may actually have a planet they can live on!

I’ll happily send you our nuts. On their own, we don’t have enough to feed many fish. 😉
