In reply to Jack K., the Grumpy Forester. Jack, one of the most striking things about these people is how little familiarity they have with the New Testament. I have been to a number of different services for social reasons [generally, my Mother insisting because of weddings, funerals, or someone's grandchild is going to sing], and all of their time is tied up among the prophets of the Old Testament. It is truly amazing, how little they know about the Gospels.

…the ironic thing is that McNeil appears to be one of those superficial winger types that have spent more time thumping the Bible as opposed to actually reading it, because if he had done a little more of the latter, he would understand that most of it is an advocacy of destroying his – and most Republicans’ – understanding of the “American way of life”. The true meaning behind the thirteenth chapter of Romans would probably fry his eyeballs if he were to actually sit down and read it…

Except that he was challenged by a student, Jill. That student’s attitude is in-line with libertarian principles and Christian principles, i.e. keep the government out of people’s religious choices, and “Judge not, lest ye be judged”. That’s the problem with educating children – they often believe what they are told and act on it, which is inconvenient for “conservatives”.
