But according to a Chinese acquaintance, it’s the same year, it’s just that the Vietnamese are bad at drawing and their rabbit looks like a cat ;).

I think the problem was a lack of rabbits in Vietnam. I don’t remember ever seeing one in the markets, and there was certainly everything else available. I’ve heard a lot of other stories about it, which were somewhat unkind to the Chinese, but I’ll go with that they probably didn’t really know what rabbits were in Vietnam.
