They Can’t Help It

At a press conference following a tour of the fires in Arizona John McCain said: “There is substantial evidence that some of these fires are caused by people who have crossed our border illegally”.

Excuse me, but I have been following these fires, and wildfires in general pretty closely and the only border violation I’m aware of is the Monument Fire, which started in Arizona and then burned 1526 acres of Mexico.

Having lived in Southern California, I can tell you that the undocumented don’t do things that will attract attention to themselves, and fires in the Southwest attract a lot of attention.

Authorities are talking to two “people of interest” in the Wallow Fire, but no one has said anything about their immigration status.

At this point I think that Cranky McGrampa would blame his corns, the common cold, and the fact that Ke$ha has a recording contract on illegals. He probably stood on his front porch in his bath robe and fuzzy slippers this morning and yelled “you illegals get off my lawn!” before he realized that it was his lawn service and returned to his breakfast.

He used to be a sane and reasonable man, the appointed heir to Barry Goldwater, but Cranky McGrampa has become a caricature of himself, Grampa Simpson in the flesh. He ought to just hang it up and retire.

Didn’t it used to be wrong to just blatantly lie in public?

There was once a time when you needed some proof before you made accusations. We have gone back to the days of my youth when being the wrong color in the same general area that a crime was committed was all that was needed for a conviction.

Jams, it hasn’t been that many decades since the Irish, as well as most immigrants were treated the same way in the US, but now they have shifted to skin color to identify the “other” among us.

I was aware that if you weren’t a Protestant in US, “you belonged to a cult”, which has morphed into the attacks on Muslims.

The hatred doesn’t go away, it just changes targets.
