When they need the support of ‘the important people’ in jurisdiction they are supposed to represent, politicians remember campaign contributions, not history. This is why the Occupy movement specifically refuses to allow politicians to speak at their assemblies.

They view all politicians and political parties with the suspicion of those who have been fooled, and have no intention of being fooled again.

Yeah, civil disobedience didn’t do shit for Martin Luther, Martin Luther King, or Mahatma Gandhi, either. Or what about that guy way back in the Middle East who passively took on the occupying force? Jesus, I can’t think of his name, but it was in all the papers….
