It has gotten more complicated because people are working more than one job these days, when they can find a job, but if you work for a living, the 1040-EZ is the way to go – no tax preparer, no software, simple math, one table look-up and it’s on its way.

Back in the early 1990’s, before the internet was all over the place, you could literally phone in your tax return. My former partner qualified for the 1040-EZ, and if you had a touch-tone phone, you called an 800 number, followed the instructions, and punched in the numbers on the keypad. He got his refund in a week.

And you’re right, Bryan; most people could probably do it that way.

It is hard to believe that Carl Hiaasen is still alive after some of the things he has written. If you are from South Florida you can put real names to most of his characters, and they aren’t from the garden club.
