Having a dog who is excited about running keeps the other dogs from drifting off and getting bored when they are maintaining a good trot. “Cheerleading” is more important to a dog team than a football team.

Aliy is running the times and deserves to be up front. She has been consistently faster than Hugh or Lance. This is the team that almost won the Quest, so they can go 1000 miles, and they can certainly win with a lighter musher.

It’s all down to Aliy’s run-rest schedule, and Allen had a good one for the Quest.

I know that doesn’t mean much at this stage, but still it’s great to see her up at that #1 position.

Got a lot of old timers in the top 10 so far, too, which is not surprising.

🙂 Like that!

I saw also that Colleen is running Penny again this year. What a great dog she is. All 30 pounds of her!

They want you to pay for everything, when a lot of their expenses are covered by volunteers and tax money. The Quest is a lot friendlier.

Aliy has the team, and knows it. It fought off Hugh Neff for all of the last five miles of the Quest with Allen riding the runners.

I see that Colleen has her ‘3Rs’ in the top 20.

Things finally dried out after a ‘gopher wood and cubits’ Saturday, so I’ve been busy. It is shaping up the way I thought it would. John Baker will continue to edge up as he maintains his pace. The race ends where he trains his puppies, so they are going home, unlike most of the dogs in the race.

Sure would like to see Aliy stay in the top 5, but there’s a looooong way to go.

So far, I don’t see anyone out of the race. There’s usually a few that falls out in this leg of it. I’m cheap or I’d spring for an Insider membership. Ha!
