They are as close to Christian fundamentalism as is possible for the two strains to be if you ignore their principal ‘founders’, and they are also guilty of ignoring the real principles of their founders to be that repressive.

That Terry Pratchett quote in my sidebar sums them up.

This attitude of ‘my way or death’ really gets to me, because I would really like to give them death, but then I would be no better than they are.

They do not perceive that what they are doing is precisely what Al Qaeda and the Taliban are doing. Call it “the principle of OUR intrinsic goodness,” where “OUR” is the population the bomber claims to represent. And yes, it most certainly applies to women’s clinic bombers and murderers of their doctors.
