That is exactly why you don’t do it. Thursday is grocery store coupon/sale day almost every place I have lived, while Saturday is for car dealers. There are ad cycles based on the day of the week. How do you follow high school football without a Saturday paper? How do you keep up with the NFL and NASCAR without a Monday paper?

Ad rates are set by circulation, and these moves certainly won’t increase circulation.

Half of the Silly Cone Valley subscribes to the Murky only for the Fry’s ads, it seems, and no Fry’s ads, no Murky subscription. I’m sure it drives the Medianews moguls nuts, but the tail is wagging the dog in this case, and I’m glad :).

They apparently did the same thing to the Mobile Press-Register and the newspapers in Birmingham and Huntsville.

I just checked and NOLA.com and AL.com have the same theme/template and are ID’ed as Advance Digital. AL.com is going to be the site for all three Alabama newspapers, so that will really attract local advertisers … 😈

Now the Houston Chronicle, Tampa Bay Tribune, and Pensacola News-Journal are the ‘major’ dailies on the Gulf Coast. Pretty pathetic.
