]]>It looks like we got rid David Rivera in South Florida, and very probably Allen West, so the delegation with be less corrupt and less crazy. Locally people decided that you do have to pay for the fire department, so some sanity is returning.
No one I voted for was elected, but I didn’t expect them to be, and my vote was counted, so I’m content. The Sharia law proposals on the ballot were turned down and I count that as a win. None of the ‘business friendly’ tax break amendments passed, so another win.
Calle Ocho doesn’t speak for young Cubans because they like Miami and aren’t moved by tales of a Cuba that no longer exists and will never return. Republicans got the old Cubans, but they don’t appeal to the younger crowd, and they sure a hell don’t appeal to non-Cubans.
Jams, the biggest stumbling block to Puerto Rican statehood is Republican control of the House. Congress has to vote on the admission, and then there is another, final vote in Puerto Rico. Who knows what will happen……
