He is now in familiar country, but headed in the opposite direction. He has at least seen the course, which is more that most of the rookies can say.

His wife is either a saint, or just as crazy as he, and most long-distance mushers are, but having Quest finishers in your kennel won’t hurt business, especially when you are established on the other side of the continent.

The relatively warm temperatures slowed things down.

It was nice that Allen won, and it took the sting out of Aliy’s loss in the 300. Now it is on to get Aliy a win in the Iditarod. She will get the best of Allen’s team for her run, as well as the best dogs from the 300 team. This has been their plan for years.

Susan Rogan is looking good, if she remembers to keep her sled bag closed.

Rob Cooke is running pure-bred Siberians, and it would be nice if he makes it to the end. If he does, I assume his wife will want to stop this foolishness and really retire to merely running a kennel back in New Brunswick.

I really thought Hugh Neff would pull this one off again, but I do think it’s rather neat that a husband and wife team have won for the first time.

I finally found a video of the Neff team arriving and was surprised to see that he wasn’t wearing his signature Dr. Seuss regalia. However, the dogs did have neon booties…
