He got chewed up in crash earlier in the year, and laid flat by the flu trying to ride the Giro d’Italia last month. You can’t have a long layoff in cycling at this level and come back quickly.

Everyone who has seen the course thinks tomorrow will be a suicide stage. Some of the ‘roads’ are not suitable for more than one bike at a time, and they are in mountains. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that Corsican officials designed to course to get the national government to provide some transportation funding.
