You can’t expect Congresscritters to say they believe anything that would annoy the people who fund their campaigns or the people who vote for them. Since the Repubs have sold their souls to the below average monied interests, and the below average voters, Congresscritters keep their jobs by denying reality.

American right-wing nut-jobs must have the worst understanding of human nature of anyone in the world. In any confrontation, if they are in charge of American policy, they take actions that are virtually guaranteed to provoke the worst possible response… and anyone not raised by utter idiots could easily predict the inefficacy of those actions. How did America produce so many people of any political stripe who are so goddamned dumb?

They tend to treat intelligence analysts like lawyers and accountants – people who exist to justify bad decisions by management. Besides, Donald Rumsfeld knew Saddam had WMDs because he gave them to Iraq when he worked for Reagan.
