The problem with using open source software that needs other open source software it that it has QA only slightly better than M$ 😉

That’s odd. WP didn’t need the FTP passwords for my account to auto-update. Unfortunately, auto-update doesn’t seem to always work, at which point when I log in I get the message that WordPress wants to update, click here.

The PHP update was alas required because there was an exploit in PHP itself. SIGH.

WP wants to automatically update for me, but I have no intention of giving anyone the FTP passwords to my account.

All the updates just completely walloped me, especially when a PHP update broke WordPress and required a hand edit of WordPress just to update to a version of WordPress that’d work with that PHP update.
