If Democrats go back to the principles that allowed them to hold Congress for so many years, they might actually get people to believe they aren’t just the lesser of two evils.

IOW, our political system, contrary to the wishes of most of our nation’s founders, first dwindled to two opposing parties, which then came perilously close to becoming one unopposed party, before diverging a bit as Dems began to realize whatthehell is going on these days. My tentative conclusion is that Democrats are grotesquely imperfect in their willingness to ditch parts of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments (at least), just like Republicans, but grotesque Democratic imperfections aside, Rethugs, at least their leaders, are just plain evil. It’s gonna be a hard slog from here on out…

They were so certain that they pulled troops away from the effort to catch Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan to prepare for the invasion of Iraq.

Odd, that…

Maybe Donald could require Muslims to wear armbands, perhaps a white palm tree and crescent on dark blue, just like the South Carolina flag. That should make relations with Israel ‘interesting’, given that the Anti=Defamation League has already extremely negative about this crap.

That was the reason I included the quotes, Badtux. The first university I attended, Colgate, was founded in 1819 by an ancestor of mine to educate Baptist ministers. No matter what your goals, chapel was required and you studied the Bible. I left after two years because of the requirements, but I remember this stuff.

Called “The Farce Awakens”. The only thing that republican pols have is “fear itself”, That’s it. Nothing else.
Unfortunately, their aging white base is easily frightened. Those that aren’t frightened are so steeped in racial bigotry they’d screw over the country before leting that upity black dude in the white house achieve anything that might look like progress or a win.
And what passes for the republican inteligentsia caters to these fears and hatreds, like dogs returning to their vomit and adding a bit more each time.

This was a Letter to the Editor in my local puppy trainer this morning.

““I can understand why many people want to slam our doors shut against refugees. I get it, I really do. What I cannot understand is how these same people can call themselves Christian.” — Sister Marilyn Lacey, Sisters of Mercy, Menlo Park, CA

I can almost hear the yardstick slamming down on the teacher’s desk at St. John’s Parochial School as she says that last sentence…

While there are notable exceptions (Bob Dole H.W. Bush) the GOP seems to be composed of people who would love to send the sons of others to war.
