I know the sinks of which you speak. We use them when one of the wall-mounted original sinks is broken. Given that the wall-mounts are enameled cast iron, no easy task.

we’ve got a division of labor here at chez hipparchia; my smallest cats have taken on this task, possibly because the fur-covered bowling ball can’t balance on the edge of the bathroom sink (no countertop to speak of, it’s one of those sinks with just enough of a surround to have a miniscule cabinet underneath).

First generation Americans are always more traditional that those who have been around a few decades. They have to take tests that are rather detailed to stay here, unlike most voters in this country.

It’s the immigrants. They learned about these traditions through American movies and television shows, so they carry them forward, not knowing anything about “Harvest Festivals” or anything like that. They are, in general, better Americans than Americans are nowadays.

We had actual trick-or-treaters here on the “socialist coast”. Where we did the socialist thing of giving these kids candy. For *free*. Without any pay or money even hinted at! No wonder we’re such hellholes of diversity and prosperity!
