His tax policies meant that my increases went to pay state income tax increases by the way he shifted responsibility for various programs. The people around him were crooks, just like the crew around Nixon. He personally had all of the signs of dementia well before there was any official recognition. He and his administration undid all of the programs that Carter created to deal with the energy crisis.

What they will never forgive Jimmy Carter for was the fact that he actually lived his faith, and didn’t just talk about it. Have to take a hurricane update break.

It’s almost de rigueur to belittle the man, but I remember the programs that he presented that would have solved many of the problems we have today. And he was derided for them mercilessly at the time and ever since.

I voted for the first time and for him the year he ran against Ronald Reagan. I was in my car when I heard that Reagan had won, and I can remember shaking my head and wondering what in the world had we done. Reagan was never one of my favorite people, but I am beginning to remember him fondly based on what we have now.
