I don’t want to make a bad choice, or to get shot for having a gun.

When I lived in Arizona they gave out carry permits like candy. I never got one. I came to the conclusion that, knowing me, it wasn’t a good idea — I’d either freeze, or end up in jail on a murder charge.

As far as up close, I can get very nasty with a PR-24 police baton – broken collar bones was a personal specialty.

Getting a carry permit in Florida is easier than getting a driver’s license. You get them from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Division of Licensing which covers concealed carry , security, and private investigator licenses, is under that department which does not have access to criminal justice records. They are depending on people to tell the truth on their applications 😈 I have no desire to carry a gun again. It is more responsibility than I need or want to keep track of a handgun in public.

I had a Ruger .22 @ 12 & we’d go weekend trout fishing & rabbit hunting. I was already a crack shot by 12.

After my Military *career* & Amnesty… I never wanted to see a gun again! Mainly because I was afraid some complete moron would force me to use it. I still occasionally dream I had my IWS-2000 and went to Canberra to make a few problems go away! It’s what I was trained to do. And I was very good at it! According to several Psych Eval’s, I am very stable & sane. Which is why I never want a gun again. Then again, in close quarters, I don’t need a gun anyway. *shrug*

I was required to carry guns for two decades. I have fired flintlocks, percussion cap, rim fire and center fire fire arms. I have owned revolvers, autoloading pistols, shotguns, and bolt action rifles. I have hand loaded my ammunition. I used to fire a couple of hundred round a month to remain proficient with four different handguns. In the military and law enforcement I fired M-16s and Uzis, as well as a 40mm grenade/tear gas launcher.

I didn’t like the M-16 or the Uzi as they weren’t suited to my environment. Pistols, pump shotguns, and scoped bolt action rifles were. I don’t see the point of an AR-15 in a non-military, non-war situation. Hell, it was a hard and fast rule that you couldn’t enter a gun show in New York with a loaded weapon.

Nothing the kids from Parkland have suggested involves taking guns away from people. The laws are targeted with keeping guns away from the crazies. We had an ‘assault weapon ban’ for a decade, and people were still able to own and buy guns.

I like shooting guns. I’ve owned guns for most of my life. But man, there’s some cray-cray small penised people out there who have no business being anywhere near guns. If giving up my guns means those frothing lunatics also have to give up their guns, I’m all for it.

Or as Jim Wright put it, if there ever is gun control in America, it’s going to be because these pro-gun asshats are annoying lunatics and the rest of America finally has had enough of their nonsense.
