Michael Moore used to have a TV show and on one episode he had a crew showing the Canadian & US farmers trying to find one of the posts they both said were there between their fields.

I would assume that gps would help in a general way.

During the summer in Rochester we would make a Molsen run across Lake Ontario to Brighton, Ontario. No one asked for anything other than proof of age. New York driver’s licenses at the time were Hollerith cards folded in half.

I would note that most terrorists don’t overstay their visas I won’t say anything about getting a “terrorist visa” because that would be uncivil or something 😈

On the northern border you can just walk across most of it with no indication of what country you’re in. The Pacific Crest Trail terminates in Canada with no border crossing indicated anywhere. You’re supposed to then walk to the nearest town to check in with Canada to get your tourist visa if walking north, and if walking south you’re supposed to first go to the nearest port of entry, get your passport stamped for entry, then go back into Canada and walk south.

And occasionally the Border Patrol sets up a checkpoint just south of the border to arrest people who are backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail.

As if terrorists are going to enter the country with a backpack along the Pacific Crest Trail when they could just get a tourist visa like every other terrorist that has ever attacked America…
