The basic cause is that it was an F-35. It was a close air support run at a bombing range and any problem will result in a crash because you have no altitude to made a correction. The pilots of the F-35 and F-22 were injured because (1) they didn’t have the altitude for the parachutes to deploy fully; or (2) they weren’t properly positioned when they pulled the ejection handle.
]]>I’m a half block from the bayou and a block from Choctawhatchee Bay, so I’m not overly concerned as they always aim for the water when possible or the base when not. It’s a PR thing that they drum into pilots – don’t blow up private property or taxpayers.
