Number 2 With a Bullet

The Shrubbery has managed to make it by Jimmy Carter’s 28% to become the second most unpopular President ever recorded in Newsweek’s poll with a new low of 26%. Only Tricky Dick’s 23% is between the current resident of the White House and immortality as the most unpopular President ever.

8 more points and Bush’s favorable rating will be equal to the 18% of the electorate commonly assumed by political consultants to be certifiably insane. And, they’ll be all his.

You mean the base for the Escambia County Commission. You would have thought that the people going to jail would have tempered their activities.

May the similarities not end there. May Bush’s presidency suffer the same fate as Nixon’s… preferably not sooner than Dick Cheney follows in Spiro Agnew’s footsteps as a man of conviction (yeah, I know, it was a plea of nolo contendere).

Cheney has a real problem with secrets – he keeps his but not the nation’s.

escambia county commission. i presume you mean the one before this one? the one where 80% were jailed — and replaced — in one fell swoop?

wouldn’t that be lovely!

Hipparchia, you need to checking Pensacola Beach Blog, they are at it again with special deals for good buddies. They keep doing it, keep getting caught, and never learn.

This is why the Washington crew needs to be impeached, so the 18% aren’t the only ones who vote.

the “successful” transformation of destin from sleepy fishing village to high-falutin resort wasn’t the starting point, but it was a watershed event, proving that yes the rich really will deign to come and play here in the midst of rednecks and yokels. they’ll even leave a few token dollars in our economy in exchange for the privilege of taking our beaches away from us.

well-heeled developers wishing to line their nests even more have long been touting the “cash cow” benefits of developing pensacola beach and perdido key, duping the citizens and some well-meaning county officials into believing that the resulting influx of visitors bringing money will trickle down manna from heaven onto the rest of us. those they can’t dupe, they try to buy, sometimes successfully. the present round started gaining steam about 20 years ago.

confession: i very seldom visit that blog. it’s bad for my mental state. i can no longer afford to live on the beach and am insanely jealous of those who can.

To understand Destin, you need to read about Robert Lee Fulton “Bob” Sikes, who was the local congresscritter for all too long, and the cause of much that is wrong with the area. He brought home the pork, but not until after he had carved off a huge chunk for himself, family, and friends. This problem goes back to the days of the “He-Coon” and his corrupt cronies who still run a lot of the Panhandle.
