…And The Horse They Came In On
The GOP has a lot of damn gall claiming they have respect for the troops when at their 2004 convention they openly denigrated those who had won a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat: Delegates mock Kerry with ‘purple heart’ bandages. The Purple Heart was first awarded by George Washington during the Revolutionary War and is the oldest medal for combat in the United States military.
When GOP House Leader John Boehner says that the loss of nearly 4000 of America’s military men and women is a small price to pay for the war of choice in Iraq, he again demonstrates how much respect his party has for the troops.
Like Keith Olbermann in his Special Comment below I’m concerned about mixing the military and politics, but the GOP might want to consider the lessons of the politicians and generals who tried to oust Gorbachev, and those who attempted to block Nicholas I from becoming Tsar after the death of Alexander I: the generals rarely have the true loyalty of the troops. It might come as a shock as to who gets put up against the wall when you haul in the military and break down the barriers.

Ssshhhh. The Decider is AFRAID of horses.
And, I ask of Boehner…what price is HE PERSONALLY paying for troops to be in Iraq. Is he giving up driving? Is he giving up FEDExing stuff or flying to and fro from DC (airplanes use fuel)? Is he willingly paying more in Income Tax to make sure the soldiers are properly equipped?
I’m so sick of these chickenshit a**kissers.
Hey, now, You’re not supposed to pay attention to what they do. You’re supposed to pay attention to what they say. If they say they have all this respect for the troops, you’re supposed to believe it! What’s that saying? Believe what you hear, not what your lying eyes tell you… something like that.
These guys complain that the Dems want to give the troops a 3.5% pay increase instead of 3%, and say they support the troops. They support their party’s mistake in the White House so Limbaugh and the slime patrol don’t attack them.
They had better get their heads around the fact that they may only get his supporters to vote for them in 2008, and you aren’t going very far with <30% of the vote.
The "base" is alienating minorities, moderates, and pretty much anyone who isn't a WASP, and you can't get elected in most places with no more support than that, no matter how you game the voting machines.
