KO Special Comment
Keith Olbermann has a Special Comment on Bush’s hypocrisy for condemning Petraeus ad.
He starts with excerpts from the Shrubbery’s press conference:
“I thought the ad was disgusting. I felt like the ad was an attack not only on General Petraeus, but on the U.S. Military.”
“And I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democrat party spoke out strongly against that kind of ad.
“And that leads me to come to this conclusion: that most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like Moveon.org or more afraid of irritating them, than they are of irritating the United States military.”
“That was a sorry deal.”
And then unloads:
First off, it’s “Democrat-ic” party.
You keep pretending you’re not a politician, so stop using words your party made up. Show a little respect.
Secondly, you could say this seriously after the advertising/mugging of Senator Max Cleland? After the swift-boating of John Kerry?
But most importantly, making that the last question?
So that there was no chance at a follow-up?
So nobody could point out, as Chris Matthews so incisively did, a week ago tonight, that you were the one who inappropriately interjected General Petraeus into the political dialogue of this nation in the first place!
Deliberately, premeditatedly, and virtually without precedent, you shanghaied a military man as your personal spokesman and now you’re complaining about the outcome, and then running away from the microphone?
The last one on lying and this one on hypocrisy. I think the man is annoyed.

Olbermann described the lines typically crossed on the path to a “military junta” … his words, not mine… and points to Bush’s use of Petraeus to do his political dirty work as a step across the first of those lines. IIRC, Olbermann actually uses the word “dictatorship.”
By the way, late last night, the MSNBC video failed. I was able to see the clip at the always useful Crooks and Liars.
Annoyed is putting it rather mildly. It sure would be nice if more of the media talking heads had the nerve to tell it like it is.
The MSNBC video is always crappy. They really need to get with the program if they what to be a “player”.
KO is right. The Hedgemony is hiding behind the military and it really pisses me off on two levels – the military shouldn’t let it happen, and the people shouldn’t put up with it.
Fallenmonk, it is absurd that the best reporting and commentary on television is coming from comedians and sportscasters.
