"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

She may not like pics with her eyes open but that is a picture of utter contentment
Are you sure she’s not from Cheshire?
Not Deep, Though
Consider Lilian Jackson Braun:
It’s nice to see an author that you
Like enjoying great renown,
Although her work’s a bunch of Cat Who…
– SB the YSS, ca. 1999
Ghost cat is smiling, Bryan. 🙂
I think that’s a smirk….
Of course she’s contented Jams, she has managed to claim the highest comfortable spot in the house after her mother and Income decided to contest who would jump up there. She edged around their “discussion” and leaped up.
That book is in a different bookcase, Anya, one I hope none of them ever attempt as it is a bit rickety and is not likely to survive any “exploration”. She is from “Computershire” having been born to the left of where I am currently sitting.
She is resting just above Lillian’s shelf, Steve, as you probably recognize.
I have to agree with Ellroon, Ame – it is more of a smirk than a smile, as she has managed to annoy her mother, brother, and me in a very short space of time.
Yes, I did notice that; that’s why I inserted the otherwise irrelevant doggerel. Lilian’s last published novel was in 2007, and the one scheduled after it was canceled by the publisher; one can only hope she is still alive. But if not, what a grand way for a mystery writer to go, keeping her readers wondering whether the author is alive!
I would think that if she lives she certainly will have to slow down a bit and wouldn’t be churning out words at her old rate. She has certainly earned a break, and I wish her well.
That is quite the contented grin she’s sporting!
I will grant her smug, Jill, although she might also be contented.
Haaa! She is a beauty! Cats like to mess up the photos, any way they can. I’ve been taking pictures of my niece’s cats, and Werro usually walks out of the picture before it snaps.
Lucrezia, the silver tabby feral, has a habit of dashing in from of the camera if I’m trying to take a picture outside. I have dozens of shots of her streaking across the yard. She is a real pain.
She is just so beeyouteeful and deserves a cheezburger.
It would be nice if she had Ollie’s manners, and would allow a proper picture to be taken. It’s not as if she were avoiding her “fans” or hiding from the police [to the best of my knowledge].
