It Should Have Been A Monday
The ABC reports that Samoa skips Friday in a change that puts them to the West of the International Date Line.
Apparently they were tired of being the last country on earth to celebrate holidays, the switch makes them the first. It also aligns them with Australia and New Zealand, who are now their biggest trading partners.
I would have opted to eliminate a Monday, but they wanted to be first for New Years.

A couple of years ago, they switched from driving on the right to driving on the left, again to be aligned with New Zealand and Australia.
