Naughty, Naughty

Adele is apparently a hugely popular British singer who just won a slew of trophies at an American music awards show, and she won a couple more at a British awards show.

The producers of the British awards show cut off her acceptance speech for the second award, and the BBC reports that Adele flips bird at BRITs.

Tsk, tsk. And she looks like such a nice and pleasant person.

I don’t suppose they still teach about fading out when a performance runs too long, like we used to do in radio. I would have thought fading at the end would be a better concept than cutting off the winner of the most important award at an awards show to have time for a final musical performance.

Adele learned a hard lesson about the music business: it’s all about the business, not about the music. Not about performers. Not about audiences. Not about any damned thing except the money the producers of shows and commercial recordings can make. It’s a hard lesson, but she’s relatively young, and can absorb it without her career being destroyed… if she doesn’t flip off too many more producers.

OTOH, she generates more income for the recording industry than those clowns at ITV. That gives her a lot of power if she knows how to use it. If I were her label, I would be raising hell with ITV, because she is a major profit center, from a business viewpoint.

As long as she doesn’t go ‘operatic’, she should be fine, and her fans probably agreed with her doing it.
