"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
"The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it."

As a child, I had a toy shaped like a huge (perhaps 7″) ladybug. The bug had two large wheels, a motor connected to the wheels through some sort of escapement, and two antennae which served to deal with obstacles it encountered. Insert batteries, set it on the floor and watch it go! A collision with the right antenna caused the bug to turn left, etc. On one occasion we watched as it visited every room in our small house!
A pity your bug devastates roses. If I still had the plastic one I’d offer it to you… if nothing else, it could intimidate the one in your picture!
Ladybugs don’t hurt roses, they eat the aphids that attack roses. There are some types that will eat vegetation, but generally ladybugs are good to have around, like the crab spiders. They beat the hell out of chemicals.
