The World Continues To Suck

About the best thing I’ve seen is that a Federal judge has told North Dakota that its new Abortion law is unconstitutional. I fully expect the state to throw away tax dollars to appeal the ruling.

It is probable that hundreds have died in a ferry disaster is Korea.

There have been knife attacks at schools in the US and Canada.

People are claiming that new satellite photos off of the west coast of Australia are showing aircraft debris, despite the fact that none of this debris has been recovered. Given the amount of time that has elapsed since the crash, the location of this debris will do nothing but confirm that the aircraft crashed in the ocean.

The premier of New South Wales in Australia apparently forgot he received a $3000 bottle of wine – which would have been more believable if he hadn’t sent the donor a thank you note. Mr. O’Farrell did have the common sense to resign.

Most (if not all) of that debris is crap tossed away by unthinking morons.

One thing i will hand to most of our poli’s here, is that when they do get caught with their pants down in public and run out of excuses, they do tend to just quietly resign. But there are some exceptions. 😉

That area is known to be one of the collection points for garbage in the Indian Ocean, so I doubt they expect to find much that is useful. In any case, what is found could have come from almost anywhere at this point.

Interesting that he still maintains he doesn’t remember a $3000 bottle of wine that was bottled on the day of his birth. That’s a rather singular gift. At least he resigned without a fuss.

Yes, there are always a few who think they can ‘beat the rap’, but they just ensure everyone remembers they were a jerk.

Well, it was nice to see this at Balloon-Juice:

“The military judge in the USS Cole bombing case has ordered the CIA to give defense lawyers details — names, dates and places — of its secret overseas detention and interrogation of the man accused of planning the bombing, two people who have read the still-secret order said Thursday.”

Of course, the probability of the order being overturned are pretty close to 100%. Still, it is nice to see at least one judge trying to stand up for what is right.

Best
Jim

(Who is still waiting to be given a $3,000 bottle of wine bottled on the of his birth. Just saying!)

This is a military court, so over-turning a judgement of the judge isn’t as easy as a civilian court. The military prosecutor is going to be sweating being able to comply, or the judge could throw out the evidence.

The cost of letting the CIA run wild is coming home to roost, as well as the decision to create a military court. A civilian judge would show more deference to government claims, as would the appellate courts.
