Litha
Today at 5:51AM [CDT] is the Summer Solstice, technically considered the “first day of Summer”, but the mid Summer by much of Europe.
Many Wiccans celebrate the day as Litha, while computer programmers honor their predecessors, the druids, who build the first solid-state computing devices, the megaliths, like Stonehenge.
The Slavs celebrate St. John’s Night, Иван Купала [Ivan Kupala], the battle between the White god [Белобог – Belobog] and the Black god [Чёрнобог – Chyornobog] for control of the Sun. The Black god always wins and the night begins to expand.
The sound track to the battle is Иванова Ночь на Лысой Горе [Night on Bald Mountain ] by Модест Петрович Мусоргский [Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky], which everyone should play very loudly.

OT: Been pretty ill the past week+. What started as a cold ended up as a nasty lung infection. Just started 2nd course of antibiotics. And it’s cold, wet (hasn’t stopped raining for nearly a week) & miserable. *shrug* Anyway, haven’t been online & decided I better check my email. Took one look at my inbox with 374 emails & said “f* it!” 😆 and that was just 1 of 5 accounts, though the others tend to get a lot less usually. *shrug*
Been browsing tech & science sites, trying to catch up & find some new things to pin (now that I have over 110 followers, i have to keep them interested. many of them seem sane) 😉 LOL Actually, you might find this young lass interesting! We’ve been having some really interesting & enjoyable chat’s! She’s from Nth Carolina, parents are Ministers, and she’s a published poet & is working towards an Associates of Science, a BS in Astronomy & Physics, and a PhD in Philosophy of Science and Metaphysics! LOL And she wants to write a Sci-Fi novel! If she wasn’t so young… 😉 😀 There is still some rare hope and intelligence even in the reddest States! 😉 😀

They really are amazing when you consider the technology and tools available at the time of construction, and the accuracy of the arrangements that still holds as far as major solar events are concerned. This is where religion becomes very usual, because you couldn’t convince people to do it for science, but they’ll do it for religion almost every time.
Y’all are having a hell of a winter from the ABC reporting – blizzards and all. The wet fall followed by the cold temperatures is an incubator for disease. At least you have something that can be cured, and not the ‘common cold’ that must be endured because there is nothing you can do but outlast it.

I celebrated it by camping in the Sierra Nevada. No naked dancing involved, just a campfire :).
I think it’s the cactus that inhibits the naked dancing in the desert 😉
