"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Who is CC’s staff right now? I forgot.
The neighbor whose cats are let out on ropes. CC put up with the rope for a while, but decided it clashed with her ensemble, so he finally gave up and lets her do her thing. My Mother raised CC after she was orphaned, but couldn’t keep her due to CC’s habit of hitting her behind the knee which almost made Mom fall a couple of times.
Ah yes, rope neighbor :). I remembered the bit about your mother and CC, and CC clearly still has staff given the state of her collar, but not where she ended up.
Actually, she gets a collar replacement every week or so, as she ditches them with great regularity, and he insists she have one.
There is probably a graveyard of dead collars under one of the local houses somewhere. It would be amusing if some unknowing plumber stumbles upon said graveyard and wonders WTF :).
Actually the only actual losses have been to the lawn mower, as she usually dumps then near his front door. The only toy she shows any real interest in is a small teddy bear that Mom put in her basket to cuddle with when she was a kitten.
