Problem Solved

The new spam filter is working and says it has blocked about 150 spam comments since yesterday. This filter might ask you about Javescript settings and cookies because apparently ‘bots don’t deal with those, but I’m hoping it’s transparent to people who have genuine comments.

The key was to change nothing while I was logged in as an administrator. After a computer re-boot I made the changes to the plugin directory, then brought up the browser and logged in, and the program recognized the changes. This is one of those cases where having multiple things open on your computer is not a benefit.

Testing one two three. Does this spam filter let me post? Curious penguins are… curious!

No one has complained and most of the regulars have checked in since I did it. It’s blocking about 200 comments a day which corresponds to the number I was dumping before I got it working.

Well it is starting to annoy me because it just said that my last four comments are spam. It thought my zombie joke was spam, then when I complained here that it thought my zombie joke was spam, it said my complaint about it marking my zombie joke as spam was spam. I got around it by hitting the ‘edit’ button after typing something innocuous that didn’t trigger the filter. Sigh.

I’ll check the settings to see if I can ease up a bit. Zombies have never been a problem, but certain drugs are.

It’s not in the settings and it gave me grief when I mentioned zombie signed in with my test name on the Chrome browser, so it isn’t just you.

See if this comment works! I’ve tried several now.

Amazing.
