"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Well, it doesn’t really matter what we do to the Earth, the Apocalypse is next week so we’re going to Heaven like all good Christians so who cares if those sinners who remain behind live short miserable lives under hellish conditions because we’ve destroyed the planet? It’s their own fault for not belonging to the One True Church, the only church that has a direct line to Jesus, *my* church.
Duh, get with the program!

Badtux, who cares about Christians with Pocky lips?
Considering the likely readership of this post, and on the basis of having read half of Naomi Klein’s latest book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate, let me list it as one of the very few books I feel every American should read. Yes, I know; that presumes every American can read… still, it’s a powerful book, and she’s not running for prez so no one will call her fat for having written it.
Well, nobody cares about those Christians, Steve. Except, apparently, the majority of our House and Senate, who seem to believe that a book of fiction written by scam artists a couple thousand years ago who spotted a good grift is somehow a guide to science, the universe, and everything.

(Who, BTW, was repeating things he’s heard from *actual* Christians. What a buncha tools!).
(It just occurred to me; Klein’s Canadian, so of course she’s not running for US prez… doh!)
Ted Cruz is a Cuban-Canadian and he’s running, so if she ran as a Republican no one would say anything.
Just for clarity, apocalypse is a revelation which may or may not mention Armageddon, the actual destructive event.
There’s a better than even chance that the event they are all anticipating has already occurred and they didn’t get selected. This is based on the lack of empathy displayed by fundamentalist Christians and their preference for the Old Testament over the New.
Face it, they are just lazy and selfish and don’t want to be inconvenienced, even to save the planet.
“Well, nobody cares about those Christians, Steve. Except, apparently, the majority of our House and Senate”
But… isn’t that a conflict of interest? Seeing as how the Senate and Congress are always supporting the Jews in Israel? In fact, more than they do the Pope in Rome? I’m confused… 😐 🙄
😛
Kryten, the fundies believe that the Pope in Rome is the Anti-Christ, and that it’s necessary for the Jews to rebuild the Temple on Temple Mount in order for the Rapture to occur and all of them be hoisted aloft to Jeeeeeezus along with the moldy corpses of their ancestors, who presumably will be restored to something other than shambolic zombies as part of the process.
If that was all that was necessary to get rid of them, I’d volunteer to help rebuild the damned Temple myself. Unfortunately all that *really* happens if they get their way in the Middle East is that things go batshit crazy (err, crazier) even faster, because there’s a Muslim mosque up there that would have to be torn down first.
But the Likudniks don’t care that the fundies are batshit crazies who want all the Jews to die in the Apocalypse that happens after the Rapture, because the fundies are *useful* crazies to them. Right now. So it goes.
The Likudniks and the Christianists each believe they are using the other as pawns in their game plan. If so many bystanders weren’t getting killed it would be the plot for a Mel Brooks comedy.
