"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. I suspect that mine are greater hunters in their dreams than they are in waking life. 😈
Mine don’t even aspire to be mighty hunters. They have staff for that :).
The only time you will actually see a cat hunting is when a momma cat is weaning a litter and is teaching the kittens how to do it. The real hunters among the ferals would show up with ‘gifts’, but you never saw them doing anything.

we once had a family pet (female) who regularly brought us gifts, some of them still alive. the male cat we had as a family pet (and curmudgeon cat too, later on) did like all lions – chased off intruders instead of hunting down food.
some of my present crew (who were rescued from a life of fending for themselves in dumpsters and on people’s back porches) go into hunting mode when they see a squirrel outside the window, but . . .
one time they actually had the chance to demonstrate their hunting prowess… the fluffy black dog was always inviting small, cute, furry creatures into the house and one time he invited a small rat or large mouse – the cats all FLEW into action —- up onto the table tops, and the kitchen counter, and the very highest bookshelves, every last one of them, as the fbd’s new little friend scuttled merrily across the floor.
Well, that was certainly embarrassing – obviously more attuned to ‘Flight’ than ‘Fight’. Obviously it was FBD’s fault for permitting in an ‘enemy’.
My boys’ reaction would have been to meow at me to bring them the scurrying creature. Get up and chase it? They have staff for that!
Well there is a hierarchy in a cat ‘pride’, Badtux, and we must all learn our place.
Yeah, well, I know my place in our local cat ‘pride’. My place is staff :).
