Say What?

I’ll be taking a break on Thursday for a medical procedure, so I’ve been busy organizing Real Life™, but there hasn’t been a lot happening.

The biggest story in the US was the “Gunfight At The Twin Peaks Parking Lot”. With 9 dead, 18 wounded and 170 arrested this is obviously a serious and dangerous incident. OTOH, a rumble at a ‘Hooters’ knock-off franchise at a shopping mall with ‘easy Interstate access’? Seriously?

My local motorcycle clubs are noted for partnering with the Marine Reserves in the ‘Toys for Tots’ campaign. Even so they don’t go to Denny’s, they go to small local joints, one club per joint.

Arranging a confrontation at mall is not something Johnny Strabler would have done.

When I rode a motorcycle in West Texas [San Angelo] I was definitely in the minority, and a target for pick-ups. Of course a lot of strange things happen in Whacko, Texas.

I don’t think the Banditos etc. are a target for pickup trucks. Somehow a pack of bikers all packing iron tends to dissuade pickup trucks from coming near them. Last count I heard was that the police had rounded up close to 1,000 firearms that had been thrown into gutters, up onto roofs, or just dropped to keep the cops from arresting them for concealed carry without a permit. That’s a lot of guns!

Supporters of guns for everybody from kindergarten to geriatric claim that an armed society is a polite society. I’m sure that with all these guns it was a very polite gunfight. Especially for those who ended up permanently polite. They’re dead too, of course, but let’s not ruin a great point with minor details, right?

Well, everyone was/is armed in Iraq and Syria which are not particularly polite. Guns are only useful if people are ready and willing to use them. Since most people aren’t, the people who are get to make the rules.

As for pick-ups and bikes in West Texas – what is true for the cities and Interstates is not necessarily true for the small towns and Farm-to-Market roads. The bikes that most ‘motorcycle gangs’ ride are not well suited for the high-crowned, no-shoulder FM roads or the brush on both sides of them. The pick-ups usually have both a shotgun for snakes and rifle for everything else in the rack. Many of those who drive the pick-ups are crazy and/or drunk and might find running over bikers amusing, even if the bikers were armed.

All the best for your procedure, and Real Life™. I know how that all goes, 🙂

No comment RE: Texas (except that it’s the only US State I’ve been (semi-officially) banned from), which I went into detail about some time ago. I’m kinda proud of that actually! 😉 LOL

There is a bit of a problem with bikies in Oz, from the reporting on ABC, and CBC noted that related groups in Canada have been hemorrhoids for the local police in several areas.

People keep saying that I need to take care of this problem, so I’ll do it, but they can forget the follow-up they want me to agree to. I want to see this problem solved before I go for any expansion.

I’m thinking of making a movie titled “Uneasy Rider” …

(Pronounced very carefully…) To healTH with you, Bryan. The price of getting older seems to be the seeking of treatment for more and more things we once ignored but can no longer put off. Hope your procedure goes/went well.
