"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
"The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it."

He’s a handsome (former?) tomcat, yesss….
Once saw a crusty on the Santa Cruz sea walk who had a cat on a heavy string like that. Cat was just chillin, sitting just like that at the end of his rope watching the people walk by as the crusty sat on the park bench talking with his crusty squeeze. When said crusty was on the move, the cat rode on top of his backpack, watching everything go by. I understand why crusties adopt animals like that — it increases how much money they get from panhandling — but I was amused nevertheless, because most crusties adopt dogs, not cats, because dogs are generally easier to train to go along with their lifestyle.
You have to start training them as kittens to accept a lead, because if you wait it is almost guaranteed not to happen.
Wonder was named for the fact that he only has one eye. He lost his other eye to a virus when he was a kitten. He was only caught because he got so sick from the virus that he couldn’t run.
