Pluto Fly-by
Nasa’s New Horizons probe is scheduled to make its closest approach to Pluto tomorrow. This completes the visits by probes of the nine classical planets of the solar system.
This is the most interesting news today.
Update: After 9½ years in flight New Horizons has successfully accomplished its primary goal.

Actually, this has turned out to be pretty interesting, hasn’t it? Ice mountains…oh my!
It is amazing to see the pictures that show our assumptions and preconceptions were wrong. It beats the hell out of blowing things up with our tax money.

Ain’t it the truth. NASA is one of the few things that I can get behind spending our tax dollars on. Unlike the war on drugs, the war on terror, the Iraq war…
But the Repubs don’t like it.
Political donors don’t make enough money from NASA programs because most of them are too long term. Politicians like whatever their donors like.
