"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. and it’s raining enough outside right now that you don’t even need the sea of galilee….
I’ve had the Bayou of Cinco dumping on me all day 🙂
So you survived Florida winter? 🙂
That’s a Tampa Bay outfit of course, a bit warmer down there than where you are. Usually. Heh.
Maybe I should send you a kangaroo hide hat Bryan. Keeps the sun and rain off. 😀
I have a couple of these: Barmah original Squashy Hat-in-a-bag
I have a couple Akubra hat’s also. They’ve made our Aussie Army slouch hats for decades. 🙂
Anyhow… Stay warm and dry guys! 😀
Oooh, that’s like the hat that Jim Wright wears. (Jim was in the same line of business as Bryan, except USN rather than USAF). He was given the hat by an Aussie friend in that line of business, probably not you though. I also have another Aussie friend who has a hat like that but his line of business is wiping patient bums (now, he used to be an investigative reporter in Florida, they kept firing him because he kept actually finding stories). My own rain hat is rather more prosaic, it’s just a regular floppy Gore-Tex hat, same basic pattern but made of Gore-Tex cloth.
It’s raining here but not majorly. Just a slow drizzly soaking rain that’s been going on for a day now. And obviously we love it, because California is dry!
I have a wide-brimmed Tilley for for warm weather and a waxed canvas version with a fleece lining for cold rain. My back-ups are a wide-brimmed construction helmet, a Resistol beaver felt cowboy hat and a German hunting hat. My Greek fisherman’s hat lets the rain drizzle down my neck, so it’s not much good. When you’re bald, you buy hats because rain drops get pretty damn hard when there is no hair to cushion the blow.
We are probably going to break the temperature records for Christmas in most of the eastern US. We have had rain since about 10PM yesterday, but it just soaks through the sand back to the Gulf.
Fortunately it looks like it is snowing in the Sierra Nevadas , Casacades, Tetons, and Rocky Mountains. The drought may have leveled off out West.
I don’t have any hats. 🙁
I have lots of hoodies, though if it rains here ,i usually end up looking a lot like the poor lolcat above.
I have a light rain jacket for warm weather, and a fleece-lined rain parka for cold weather, so the hats are really irrelevant.
That’s are never irrelevant m8! Jeez…
Hipparcha! Now I feel sad. 🙁 I’ll have to send you a good hat now, especially since Bryan think’s they are irrelavent! Hmmph!
😉 😀
don’t be sad, kryten! I had cowboy hats when I lived in texas, so I don’t feel deprived. [insert smiley face with cowboy hat here]
With hooded rain gear hats can get in the way, Kryten. I always have something on my head when I go out to protect the skin on top from being assaulted by airborne detritus. 🙂
