"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Ummmm… Yeah. Whoopee. *sigh*
Seriously? Who cares!
Just another excuse for overtime pay or a day off. Ahhhh… I get it now! 😉 😆
Some nut started a petition to change the holiday date. I kid you not.
So, this is your equivalent of Columbus Day – celebrating Europeans stealing land from the indigenous people. I would have thought that the date of Australia becoming self-governing would have been more appropriate for a celebration.
Yeah, pretty much like Columbus day. Another thing we have in common. Attempted extermination of the indigenous population. Though, given we were both British Colonies at the time, hardly surprising.
That makes two of us then. 🙂 But then, that isn’t as *cool*. Right? 🙂 There are many who still think becoming independent of the *Motherland* was a bad idea. Though, technically, we are still part of the Commonwealth. Wahoo.
Oh, yes, the “good old days”, “tradition”, “we’ve always done it this way” , etc. Great, let’s start bleeding sick people again 😉 What is so great about a King/Queen? Richard Cromwell, Nicholas II, Louis XVI, Donald Trump … inheriting money and/or political power has failed famously too many times.
