Iditarod 2016 – Day 9

Iditarod 2016 MapSled DogSomeone will pass under the Burled Arch today. Dallas is running his usual ‘no rest’ end game, but it’s up to his puppies to make good on his gamble.

So far, Dallas’s puupies are making him look good.

Ray Redington Jr. is carrying the family colors alone as Robert scratched at Galena. Robert was in 46th, which is good for a rookie run. It wouldn’t be the Iditarod without Redingtons, Mackeys, and Seaveys running.

Ouch – Lance scratched at Galena, and Cim Smyth & Jim Lanier scratched at Kaltag. Lance’s puppies have been having some GI problems. A lot of injuries early on are beginning to ache.

Someone, probably Dallas, will be in Nome in the early morning hours.

The Mushers in bold are former winners of the Iditarod, while italics indicates Yukon Quest winners. The numbers in parentheses are their Bib numbers. The small “R” indicates a total rookie, while the small “Q” indicates an Iditarod rookie who has completed a Yukon Quest.

These are the official standings. That means they are official, not that they are correct. Things jump around a lot as people decide to update the standings. This problem is especially bad in the back of the pack, as no one bothers to update those standings when the lead is changing.

This post will be updated during the day, and the map changed on all posts to reflect the current situation.

All posts on the Iditarod can be seen by selecting “Iditarod” from the Category box on the right sidebar or clicking on the Sled Dog graphic.

Yikes, is it that time already? Is it my imagination or would this be considered a really short time for the first to arrive?

Looks like Ellen is hanging on to the Red Lantern.

A lot of the recent races have been under 9 days of racing, so this one will be quicker than most. Dallas is down to a sprint team, 9 puppies, and he is already at White Mountain.

Yes, it looked like she had passed along, but got it back. She’s doing her 8-hour at Ruby.
