That Was Fun … Not!
It took 2 minutes to boot Windows 10 when disconnected from the ‘Net. Things do sort of work, but there is a pause, possibly the OS looking for the ‘Net that isn’t there. Solitaire runs, but is jerky and obviously the ads [did I mention that the ‘free’ M$ games in Win10 have ads] aren’t changing.
This wasn’t a really fair test because the only M$ software I use is the OS and Solitaire. Everything else is either open-source or mine.

This is odd. My Toshiba laptop has a very slow processor and slow Intel graphics and is dual boot (Fedora Linux and WIndows 10), and it boots up quickly whether it’s connected to the network or not. Let me get the stopwatch out and see what happens….
Okay, from cold boot through the Grub boot prompt to the Windows login prompt is 35 seconds with the networking on, and 30 seconds with the networking off. From the login prompt to the Windows desktop is 15 seconds with the networking on, and 10 seconds with the networking off. The system is not fully up at that point, lots of things are still happening in the background, but you can pull up system monitor and watch them.
2 minutes? You have something seriously wrong in your system configuration….
Well, Badtux, after I turned the Net back on and booted it came up in 25 seconds. There were updates at the end of the week that may have fixed some issues, but it is still annoying when it jumps on to the Net every time I try anything related to the OS.
