I have been locating software to shift operations to my trusty XP box because in their push to make me upgrade my Win 7 laptop, they broke the Update function. I think I’m going to need to restore to my earliest restore point and start updating again. I’m back to May and it isn’t fixed. Their “repair tool” tells me Upgrade is broken, but they can’t fix it.
They probably broke it when they changed their “Upgrade to 10” campaign in May.

Brian, you might avail yourself of a utility called “never10”. I got badly hosed by microslop and was gimping along without updates and I found never10. I ran it and updated my computer. Never got Windows 10. Be aware that kb3035583 has been reissued as an important update.
I’m still gonna switch to ubuntu and do my own micro-exit.
Never10 didn’t correct my problem with updating, but it should stop the win 10 assault.
I just downloaded a new copy of windows update, and am hoping that fixes something. I think that M$ screwed up the software with a critical update on 6/7, because that was the last time everything worked.

shirt, ever since I retired from real work 😈 I have completely forsaken Windows for Ubuntu, excepting only helping my s.o. Stella with her close encounters of the worst kind. For my personal purposes, Ubuntu fills the bill, and I expect to avoid the stroke I was surely in line for if I’d stuck with Win.
I’m having better luck with Windows 10 than most folks here seem to be having, but even I don’t use it as my primary platform. My Macbook Pro is now over 2 years old but still plenty fast for what I need. And far less frustrating.
I have give up on Win 10 and trying to get win 7 functional again. I’m type this on my XP box, and about ready to do everything on the iPad.
