This has been a very long season kicked off by what became Hurricane Alex on January 12th and ended with Otto on November 26th. There were 16 tropical systems and 15 of them earned names. Of the named storms, 7 became hurricanes with 3 making major hurricane status. Hurricane Matthew was Category 5 with 160 mph sustained winds at one point.
Things have changed and weird is the new normal for tropical weather.

sure wish we could have sent a little of that excess tropical disturbance to all my favorite camping and hiking spots in the smokies . . . .
All those hardwood forests going up in smoke is certainly painful to nature lovers
