Cyclone Debbie

The Northeast coast of Australia is about to get slammed by Cyclone Debbie which is forecast to be a Category 4 storm by the time it makes landfall in Queensland.

The people on the coast are veterans, but that really doesn’t help – just because you’ve done it before doesn’t mean you want to do it again.

I no longer wish for a weather event such as cyclones or hurricanes. We’ve had a surfeit of rain in California. The drought is over (for this year!). I can tell: going to work on the kings highway the weeds are shooting out of the ground like it’s a free fire zone. Speaking of fires, its gonna be a hot August.

Down in San Diego all of the ‘tinder’ springs up to die in the late summer so an off-roader or , camper, or smoker can light it off. Off course the oil from the eucalyptus trees doesn’t help.

Yep, it’s amazing, no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse. 😉

Turdbull, who like Trump does f*ck all & has actually cut emergency services funding, is telling anyone who’ll listen he’s helping QLD! Basically taking credit for the work of the QLD Gov & the people.

To hell with them all!

Queensland seems to be doing a good job of convincing people to get the hell out, and the utilities are staging crews to start restoring power ASAP. Until the storm comes ashore and the extent of the problem is known, there is no way of knowing if the state needs or wants federal help. FEMA suits up, but a governor has to ask the Feds for assistance in the US. I would assume that things work that way in Australia.

The Republicans soent most of their snow removal budgets because the first half of winter was nothing, and then there were three blizzards in the last month. The conservatives seem to think that having money set aside for an emergency is wasteful, so they cut taxes and then end up paying interest on borrowed money to cover their bills.

They are expecting it to be a Cat 5 tomorrow.

Funding was a mix of fed/state. But fed cut a lot of it. *shrug*
