Iran promises to send warships to Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean. Just what we needed, the US and Iran playing nautical bumper cars off the Gulf Coast.
US President Donald Trump has mocked a political rival as Pocahontas – as he welcomed Native Americans to the White House. So three of the surviving thirteen Navajo code-talkers go to the White House for a ceremony. First the ceremony is in front of a portrait of Andrew “Trail of Tears” Jackson and then he gives the men the printed copy of his prepared speech. He then makes unscripted remarks that include calling Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas”, a racial slur the way he uses it. You can’t take him anywhere that he doesn’t embarrass the nation.

The odious idiot believes that his sick belittling remarks that were funny to his base base are the peak of witticism, to be shared with an appreciative world.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
He targets everything he says to his base, the loyal third of voters who think he can solve all of the nation’s problems with bluster, bullying, and lies. Now he’s claiming that the Access Hollywood video tape of him making his misogynous remarks is fake, after already admitting it was real.
Wait, Iran has some boats that can survive the open ocean?! Well, they have a few old Kilo subs, but they’d need to dispatch the Kharg, their old OI-class replenishment tanker, to get the Kilos to the Gulf. As for their frigates, the only other possibly ocean going vessels that they possess… pffffft. They’d get beat to c**p trying to sail those tiny things over the Atlantic. Not happening.
All in all, there’s no “there” there.
As for Pocahontas, we’re talking about a young Native American girl who was kidnapped, held hostage, raped, forced into sexual slavery posing as marriage, then most likely murdered. Yeah, *just* the name you want to mention in the middle of a room full of Native Americans!
It sounds like the Iranians are looking to make some equipment purchases as they are getting hundreds of million of dollars back that the Shah had spent for equipment that was never delivered. As it was in US dollars they should be able to get a couple of ocean going vessels. Without morons like Trump and the new Saudi crown prince, they probably wouldn’t have bothered.
The Easter Egg Roll made it apparent he can’t even handle the ceremonial functions. As Senator Warren’s family is from Oklahoma, there’s a better than even chance of having Cherokee or Seminole among her ancestors. Given the state of record keeping in Oklahoma before the 1980s, proving it would be nearly impossible. If her mother said it, it was probably true as most people would deny it even if they thought it was true..
Well, the Iranians are going to have problems on the equipment purchases front if you’re talking about ships. The only people willing to sell military hardware to them are the Russians and the Chinese. Russia seems only capable of building submarines nowadays and not many of those, and the Chinese military shipyards are busy building their own blue water navy. In the past ten years they’ve built or started construction on 20 destroyers destined for their own navy, as well as 29 frigates, 11 replenishment ships to support a blue water navy, 11 amphibious assault ships, 2 aircraft carriers, at least 20 conventional submarines similar to the Russian Kilo class with multiple enhancements such as a German-inspired AIP system that allows them to go high speeds underwater for much longer distances than traditional electric propulsion, and at least 4 nuclear submarines. Their dockyards are *busy*!
So yeah, Iran isn’t going to be dispatching any ships to the Gulf of Mexico anytime soon.
As for Elizabeth Warren and whether she has any Cherokee blood or not, who cares? Obsessing about that is as racist as obsessing about whether Obama was black or just “mixed”. Sheesh.
The Iranians tend to be very ‘thrifty’ and would probably be looking at used destroyers. With Trump’s hissy fits annoying the world the number of people willing to sell equipment to Iran is rising.
My boss in law enforcement was listed as a Cherokee. He didn’t get anything out of it, but the various departments he worked for got credit for a minority hire. What people don’t seem to understand is that there aren’t any preferences to speak of unless there is a history of discrimination. Quotas show up in court orders or law suit settlements, not in laws. I was on a civil service Equal Opportunity board. The point of the board was to watch for discrimination, not promote preferences. I would have loved to have hired bilingual [English/Spanish] recruits, but if they weren’t in the top three places on the list, I couldn’t do it. That’s what the laws say in New York.
