She graduated from Boston University with a cum laud bachelors in economics and international relations. While in Massachusetts she interned at Senator Ted Kennedy’s office.
She worked on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign learning the basics for her 2018 run for Congress.
She and and Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan [who became famous for referring to Trump as the ‘motherf*cker’] have both been appointed to the Financial Services committee and the Oversight committee of the House. This is not good news for Wall Street, the banks, or the Trump administration.
Ocasio-Cortez has displayed knowledge of science, technology, economics, and foreign relations. It should be obvious why Republicans are afraid of her.

the only thing I know about tlaid is that she’s got the nerve to say that out loud, but that’s enough reason right there for me to become her #1 fan too.

AOC understands and believes in Modern Monetary Theory, which is Keynesian in origin. She was working in bars and restaurants after college to get money together quickly after her father died. She scares the bejeezus out of Republicans.

On your point about the threat not being that much greater than elsewhere, we have rattlesnakes and cottonmouths, alligators, black bears, and too many people with guns they don’t know how to use responsibly. We have sharks and lion fish in the Gulf. Oh, there are also the occasional hurricanes. But, hell, in a few decades about half of Florida will be under water, so no worries….

The main reason the wealthy don’t like MMT, is that the antidote for inflation is increasing taxation, which reduces the money supply and reduces the pressure on inflation. The Federal Reserve using the cost of borrowing to achieve the same goal.
Of course, I advocate for the trillion dollar coins to pay off the national debt, but that freaks out the wealthy even more.
I dunno about the fauna here being worse than anywhere else, though technically that may be true. I have traveled all over Australia, land & water, & NEVER had any problem! She wants to return to marginal tax rates, which the rest of the world uses. If you can’t make it on $10 million/year you have some serious loan issues. The point at which these suggestions kick in are obscene. The Beatles got nailed by 95% on everything over £ 10,000 [$ 24,000 at the time, see Taxman – “you get 19 I get 1”], so 70% over $ 10M is not outrageous. What is outrageous are the people who are in deep trouble if they have to buy a new tire being convinced to complain about what happens to multi-millionaires.
