Yukon Quest 2019 – Day 5
The teams will be dribbling in all day for their major layover, so not much racing. The standings will do odd things as volunteers catch and correct errors made overnight.
Hendrik Stachnau, a German musher, has a team of purebred Greenland Dogs and Alaskan Malamutes. They are larger and stronger breeds than the Alaskan huskies, but were not bred for all out speed.
The first teams will be able to leave Dawson at midnight PST, 2AM CST.

These are the official standings. That means they are official, not that they are correct. Things jump around a lot as people decide to update the standings. This problem is especially bad in the back of the pack, as no one bothers to update those standings when the lead is changing.
The Mushers in bold are former winners of the Yukon Quest, the numbers in parentheses are their Bib numbers, and the small “R” indicates a rookie.

Bryan, where is their layover located? I’m looking at the “Live Tracking” page, and it looks like the front runners are all between Scroggie Creek and Clinton Creek at the 398 mile marker, so I’m assuming that is where they are all laying over. There’s about 22 of them there if the live tracking is accurate.
Apparently, Brent Sass got the “Poke of Gold” yesterday. lol. I think that’s at Dawson City, so maybe that is where they have the long stop.
Dawson City is the layover, and it is normally 36 hours. It is at 398 indicated by the red square on the tracking map. Unless they have changed the rules, the Poke of Gold” goes to the team that is first to Dawson ….and…. finishes the race.
