There is reporting that ICE will be conducting sweeps this weekend in 10 cities, including New Orleans. The current path of Tropical Storm Barry says that isn’t going to happen.
What is the point of these announced raids? Do they think that the targets are going to hang around, even if they aren’t required to evacuate? This makes no sense.

The point is to inflict fear. I would call it domestic terrorism. And, what ICE is doing to undocumented people is also horific. What they do to their children is an obscenity
It is a violation of US and international law. “I was only following orders” didn’t work for the Gestapo and SS, and it won’t work for ICE or CBP.
Bryan, I expect the people responsible for these horrific crimes to spend exactly as many years in jail as Richard Nixon did.

I know that you are probably right, and that makes me even angrier about the situation. If there is no penalty it will continue to happen.
They are not just looking for or rounding up, undocumented people. They are also looking for pregnant teens & young single moms & taking their kids away & putting them in “collection shelters” scattered across the USA, including CA. These include US citizens.

This is another level of the private prison industry. They can charge the government $700/per day to house kids, when they could provide a family services for $1400/month. it makes no sense fiscally or morally. People need to go to prison over this or it won’t stop happening.
If we can get a Democrat as President we need to start passing laws to limit the power of the President. Congress has abdicated its responsibility in too many areas to the President as a manner of convenience and to avoid making difficult decisions. Congress is supposed to control spending and declaring wars.

This brings back memories. I was blogging on “Loaded Mouth” in 2004 when all this started. I remember us blogging about Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D MI) attempt to have the suspicious Ohio ballots checked by the HJC & the FBI (R. Mueller was head of FBI then). It went nowhere. If memory serves… There were a few conspicuous Dem’s working against an investigation, including Pelosi. No surprise there all things considered. I remember also that during the Shrubbery years, we blogged a lot about Conyers attempts to investigate a multitude of GOP shenanigans & he got little to no support from some senior Dem’s. I had copies of all those blogs… But I have no idea where they are now. I think I archived them on CD, but I have hundreds of those!

The 2000 and 2004 elections were both hacked, but the Dems wouldn’t push to do anything about it. When the Repugs cheat the Dems refuse to “make a fuss”. Pelosi is still following the same trend for ignoring Republican misfeasance in pursuit of “bi-partisanship”. You saw Clinton and Obama bending over backwards to try to get the Republicans to help frame solutions.
It is extremely frustrating to elect Democrats and watch them comprise good legislation in an attempt to get some Republican votes they don’t need.
